Ah.. he's not being ganged up on just given a dose of reality.  Really cool site by the way... I like it... I understand how frustrating it is for people that have had to go through hoops to get what they need... and how it can make you not like those that don't go throughthe hoops.

Try not to forget thought that a lot of these people are quite young and most of them wouldn't have the nerve to do what they say they will.

That said I know there are plenty of people out there supporting the "under the table" economy.

I think one issue to is if these people were headed to the Ethiopia or I don't know Korea... to travel and work for a while people would not be so quick to say don't do it.  Even on that site I am sure there are plenty of people that have "worked" to sustain their travels.  I guess I can't see the harm in working your way around the globe and living your dreams.  Then again I am the only one usually arguing from this viewpoint in these discussions.  :P

peeps - my sentiments exactly. Many of the "travellers" on the site are the sustain your travel by working types and will never ever try to get a working visa for serious moving purposes. I've almost gone to graduate school in Australia (still want to but moving on), signed up for a TEFL course in Prague in order to teach English in Japan and started the sign up process for the Bunac New Zealand 1 year working visa. Hell, I have been as guilty as the next kid enquiring about cash work when backpacking. Guess I'm a grandma by this point compared to them and who wants to listen to the adults?

Is there not a moderator on whatever board this kid is posting on?  If he's really giving out wrong advice that could get someone legally in trouble, you should consider reporting him.  Harmful to the nation and all that jazz.

I am the moderator.  ;D

It doesn't matter what I say I keep hitting a brick wall. I give up!

I told him he shouldn't dispense advice that is not based on fact (in a different thread -- the one where he goes on about how easy it is to get a bank account and how much he knows about getting a flat here. Sigh.). As far as I am concerned the case is closed. Though I feel very drained!

I just read that thread, I would feel very drained as well! I think he's just doing it to provoke you and see how far you're willing to go to prove him wrong. Don't shoot yourself, smack him in the head instead (although it probably won't do any good :) )!

I've told him as such: that I'm convinced that he is not serious and are just flaming.

It's a topic that I take very seriously though. Don't we all? I am now just going to let him trial and error his way into getting put in jail for tryng to evade the system. I'll be there with popcorn and a deck chair.

It's also good to know that I didn't miss something in the immigration process. Like that ACG visa (anyone can get) that many American's think they deserve because they are American (note: general statement of opinion, not fact!). I suppose since I am the only one on that message board who has moved to the UK from the states I feel like the goodwill ambassador!

Delara,

You might want to post the link below in your forum. It's to a page with a consolidated version of all the UK immigration rules.

That said I know there are plenty of people out there supporting the "under the table" economy.

Hey!  There are regulars on *this* forum in overstay status.  And I mean *very* regulars!!  So we need to tone it down a bit so as not to alienate anybody.

Overstay happens.  It's part of the show.  It's a judgment error that young people in love are prone to make.  It's not fun to be in their shoes, they are stressed out and worried - they are  *VULNERABLE*!  sometimes pregnant, sometimes compromised, some have even resorted to turning tricks in order to secure decent lodging.  It's not a picnic you know...

If we castigate them, then they have lost yet another resource to turn to...
