I called my grandparents: grandma and grandpa, no matter which side. I saw one side more often and therefore, have always known them more as my grandparents.

My mom is now called "mimi" and my dad is "gumpa" by my niece. My mom chose her name and my dad's was just chosen by my niece. I think it's cute and it will stick. My mom didn't want to be a grandma, she felt too young (50).

I am way off from having any, but my sister just announced she is pregnant w/ number 2!!! So excited :)

My children called them Granny and Grandpa on both sides of the family, but added the surname - eg Granny Brown, Granny Smith (not the apple! ;D). They called their great grandmother 'Little Granny' because she was. :D

My maternal grandparents were Nana & Grandpa.  My paternal grandparents were Grammy & Poppy Chew (their last name).

My boys call my mother Grandma.  My paternal grandparents were dead by the time my kids came along, but they knew my maternal grandparents and called them Nana & Grandpa as well (there were no "real" grandpas around at the time, so there was no confusion).  All of my grandparents are gone, now.  In fact, Saturday it was 10 years since we buried my Nana...still hurts like it was yesterday...

Anyway, the boys alternatively call my in-laws by their first names or Gran & Grandad.

They don't call my father anything.  They met him once (at my wedding!) and he's never been a part of their lives.  They also have no relationship with the parents of their "fathers," nor with their "fathers," either.

My nieces call their maternal grandparents grandma and grandpa, but they call their paternal grandparents Mary Grandma and Papa.  My oldest niece started using Mary Grandma on her own (Mary is her first name) and it just stuck (my nieces are close to their paternal grandmother)-before she called her Nana.

My grandparents on my mom's side are G.G. (short for Granny Goose) and Grandaddy. My great-grandparent were Nana and Dadaw. My grandparents on my dad's side are Mamaw and Papaw.

But never fear, gentlemen; castration was really not the point of feminism, and we women are too busy eviscerating one another to take you on.

I called my grandparents (both sets) abuela and abuelo (Spanish for grandmother and grandfather) since they were all native Spanish speakers.  Yasmin will grow up calling my parents abuela and abuelo and the DH's father as grandad.
