Corn syrup
« on: November 20, 2005, 03:26:28 PM »
I did a search and was not able to find a clear answer on this.  I know that corn syrup (Karo syrup) isn't easy to find around here, but is it available anywhere?  I wanted to make a pecan pie and didn't realize that I wouldn't be able to find corn syrup!

Awesome!  Thanks!  I'll have to take a walk down there this week.  I want to get some cake mix and pickles too.

You can also make pecan pies without corn syrup quite well.

If they don't have it let me know and I will either send you mine which I never use or get you a recipe.

What about using golden syrup or treacle instead of corn syrup, has anyone tried that?

You can in some recipes, but it will change the texuture and consistency.  Hence the best thing is to really look for a UK recipe on BBC food or on Delia Smith or even a US based one that does not use corn syrup.

I honestly don't like corn syrup anymore.  It's way too sickly sweet for me and I felt like it ruined my pie last year.  I made two pecan pies and the one without was much better.  BUT that is just my taste.

Thank you, vnicepeeps.  I'll let you know if I'm unsuccessful finding it!  I do want to try to find some to make the recipe I have, though, as it is a family recipe, but if I'm not able to find some, it will be nice to try something new!
