Medical files....
« on: April 21, 2005, 02:00:14 AM »
Can I get the original copies of my medical records? Or will they charge me $40 to copy them? Can I get them for free somehow? I'm a cheapass with less money than I thought.

hiya, hopefully i can be of help.
if you are wanting your medical files from your hospital or Gp in the uk, it will cost about £10.00
you'll need to either apply by post, medical records dept , or you can go in and see your records.
i got mine by post.

Just to add to this - GP surgeries can actually charge up to £50 to cover their admin costs as a "reasonable" charge.  This might be extra because some of the records might be in hard copy and archived and some may be electronic. If they are all on computer, it is considered only a small effort for them to be printed off, but more time consuming if someone has to search for the archived records.

Usually you must put it writing that you wish to have copies of your medical records, or the surgery will have a form for you to fill out.
