Play Areas for toddlers?
« on: July 20, 2005, 02:55:29 PM »
I'm still in the U.S and there are nice large soft play areas in the larger malls here in Houston, it's really great everything is like a mini Disney land for them and it's FREE! Is there anything like this in England, preferably near Berkshire not in London.  I would really like to take my daughter somewhere during the day to get all of her energy out and meet other kiddies, besides sweating it out in a hot park somewhere.
Any suggestions??  Thanks;-)

Not making a judgement, I'm not a mom and know nothing about it, but aren't those places germ farms?   :-\\\\

I can see that it has to be better than running around in the heat though!!!  Especially THIS summer!!!  Even a run through the sprinkler would be too hot this year I think.

These are usually located in community or leisure centres here, and there's a small charge for using them - £2 or so.

I've never seen one in an enclosed shopping centre, as a 'mall' is known here, and definitely not one that is free of charge.

They sometimes have play areas in family-friendly pubs too, for a charge.  You can rent them for kid's birthday parties as well.

We have local play centres that aren't a part of the county council's leisure centre.  The one closest to us is called the Play Barn (it was converted from an old barn).  It's quite nice for the winter when outside play is out of the question due to weather.

Most play centres that I've seen do charge fees (between £2-4).

This is another local play centre:

Thanks, I will definitely check out those places!  As far as Germs go, Germs are EVERYWHERE, that's a part of being a kid, and it's hard to avoid unless you're in a germ-free bubble. what I've learned as a parent is to wash, wash ,wash hands all the time, carry anti-bacterial wipes etc and ofcourse discourage putting everything in the mouth! lol.  Yes, it is hot from what my husband tells me, so that is why I am looking for some indoor play areas. Thanks Everybody, please keep posting if there's anymore!

the play centres which charge a small fee but the play parks here are great (in my opinion) my favorite in London is Highgate woods and primrose hill. check out for info closer to your area:

Our McDonalds has one and also we just had a Brewer's Fayre open up and they have a large one but you have to pay £3. Also a lot of the family pubs have them.
I agree about the germs! I wouldnt let any of my kid play in those things till they were at least 5.
Bouncy castles are real popular here. There is always someone on my streeti hiring one for a birthday party.

Gross, Alicia! Are you sure they were nuggets? What kind of "nuggets"!! Blah! I hate those things!
Our McDonalds one is surprisingly clean. They close it down each week to hose it down or whatever they do.

argh ...you know pebbles they close it down so the employees can play uninterrupted ;D

and to answer your question yep it was nuggets I squished it with my palm :P...they have a little cafe in the playcentre so it's not easy to keep toddlers from playing without food in their hands :-\\\\
