Where can I get edamame?
« on: May 19, 2005, 09:37:36 PM »
I love edamame (frozen whole soybeans in pods that you boil for 5 minutes and serve with alittle salt- mmmmmm) - I used to get it in the frozen section in the states but not here. I can order it at some Noodle bars in London but I'd like to make it at home. Any ideas?

TIA - Foz

I've been looking in vain, too! We just got a new Julian Graves healthfood store near me and they have tons of beans and stuff, but no endamame. :(

Holland & Barrett. We don't have one near us. Do they have endamame?

Aren't they soy beans? If you're asking for edamame, unless you are in an Asian market, you probably won't find them. Like asking for cilantro. Took me ages to find coriander.  ;)

But if you ask for soybeans, won't you just get the beans? I mean, with no pods? I tried doing a search on Holland & Barrett's website for "soy", but all I came up with was soy vitamin supplements.

If you are able to get to Oriental City NW9, used to be called Yaohan Supermarket, I'm sure you can buy some there.  Fantastic oriental food court to boot!

I go once or twice a year to get my Japanese fix.  3 hour drive 1 way in pushing it a bit for more visits.  :P

I was able to get them at most asian grocers in China Town/Soho when I lived in London.
