Okay, about four months to go and getting seriously stressed between planning a wedding and a move overseas. I think I have the basics of the visa application process down, but I just want to check that I’m right in my assumptions, get advice if someone thinks I should do something differently, etc.
We’re getting married in October in America. After allowing time for the marriage license to be processed (5-7 business days) we’re going to NY in person to apply for my spousal visa, hopefully to leave for the UK shortly thereafter if all goes as planned (don’t really want to think about what will happen if it doesn’t!). We’ve been compiling documents for months – bank statements, rental agreement for his apartment in the UK that already has my name on it, my CV, etc. etc.
So, here’s my plan:
Make an appointment in NY (as far as I’m aware this can only be done 2 weeks in advance), fill out application and pay online through the Fast Track system shortly after the wedding, which should allow enough time for the license to be processed. Print docs to bring with us. Fly to NY, go to appointment, get visa, fly to UK Do I have this right?
Also, if, say, we have a 10 am appointment (I have no idea what times they do these), what time should we show up at the Consulate? Just early, as in an hour, half an hour, or when it opens?
This all sounds so simple in theory, but the horrible thought that something will go wrong and keep me from going back with him is nerve wracking, as I’m sure you all understand. Any help, advice, suggestions, soothing of my shattered nerves
would be greatly appreciated.
