Silly question about Sunglasses...
« on: May 19, 2005, 05:04:38 PM »

Ok you guys i know this might sound weird but i have googled for info, and nothing.

I bought this wicked pair of vintage sunglasses - but - the lens is a bit scratched and it protrudes out of one end..while the frame is to die for i can do with replacing the lens.

Does anyone in this universe replace lenses ?

This are NON prescription glasses. They are 60's bugeye wrap around style. I bought them on ebay and cant wait to get them, the lens is glass.

The other thing might be ( and i am only thinking outloud here..) to possibly get the scratches on the lenses removed and perhaps get the lens re-fitted so it fits on the frame again..it just sticks out a tiny bit.

Cheers
Zu.

I would think that if you just went to a good optical place they should be able to do that for you, as long is it's not curved glass or something really strange.  You may want to call around and ask before you bid - but I know what you mean, there are a lot of really cool vintage frames out there.  I LOVE the old cats eyes with rhinestones!!   8)

Hi
yea thats the thing..the ones i am getting are vintage bugeye style...this guy on ebay was selling hundreds of incredible glasses that her purchased from an optometrist's 50 YEAR collection . Now that the auction was over, i pink myself for not buying more...they were from the 20's through to 60's , incredible museum pieces really...most still had tags affixed..

Anywhoo the one i got is curved fishbowl lens from early 60's but they are so extremely rare that i will keep them regardless, ofcourse i would love to wear them proper one day
.
Assuming it is extreme curve, cant they replicate it in this day and age ?

Anyway, i am soon going to the States but would love to figure out who can do this for me before i get there so i dont waste any additonal time .

Thanks for the tip

That's cool - great place to visit!  But a bit too far from Michigan for me to try and find a place for you.   8)

Have a good trip!

Awwwh...thanks  Liza :)

I'm sure there's got to be someone doing lens replacement...will grab the yellow pages upon arrival and see what happens.
