I think you will like this.. use your PC to make FREE calls to LANDLINES in USA and lots of other countries. FREE calls from USA to UK as well.

Lots of people at another forum i use have given excellent feedback on this so yes, it does work.  download the software, enter a hotmail or yahoo e-mail address, create a username and password, and start calling. Clarity is excellent and best of all, its totally free.

installed it and made my first call.. to my own home phone. worked a treat.  now i need a proper headset so i can be more comfortable!



according to their rates page, you can also call mobiles for free in usa.

how long it lasts is anyones guess, but enjoy it for now!

do you know what it's like to call the US? do you get a good line?

I've never used the program mentioned above, but my friend in Germany calls me here in the US with Skype (skype.com) and the connection is usually good.  Sometimes there's a bit of a delay or static, but generally you wouldn't know it was an overseas call.

i havent called USA yet but according to the replies at another forum, the clarity is described as "really good". i would imagine the clarity improves if you have a fast internet connection. there are 45 replies and only one person who says it doesnt work for them. 

someone says when you call from UK to USA you should use prefix 00 , someone else says + works as well.

Skype and other Voip services are not free for calling landlines, this is.. which makes it special.

Oops, you're right Minty.  Must have missed the "landline" bit in your post.  Never mind!

My DF calls me on a VoIP phone to my landline and it's very clear.  We have only had about 4 problems over the past 8 months.

I have a box connected through Lingo.  I bought it before I came over to the UK and it works fine....I'm having trouble getting either an american phone working though or a converter for a UK phone jack to US phone jack....couldn't even find one at B&Q.  Hopefully mom will bring me a phone that will work when she comes to visit in two weeks...but the line works fine!  It's pretty cheap and gives me unlimited calls to US.  I have a US area code/phone number so it will be cheaper for all the folks back home.

Humm,, I downloaded it last night, and made two test phone calls to my girls in Houston, which were clear, and free,, but today I got a recording requesting my credit card details inorder to get 'credit' for more phone calls. Disappointing 

I've got my Lingo phone up and running now and it works great!! I pay 20US$ a month and get unlimited calling in Western Europe, US and UK.  Plus it comes with voicemail, call waiting and other gadgets like that!  I would highly reccommend it if you are communicating back and forth a lot...as long as you have the computer equipment/internet you can hook it up anywhere.  It's an Indy # so the folks back home only have to dial the 7 digits to reach me! Who says I need a man, when I've got Lingo! (well, I suppose that's a little excessive).
