Hi:

I was wondering if can help me. I'm a 30 year old who recently moved to London to pursue a better career opportunity in the City. I've been here for about 4 months and my efforts have been quite futile... I've interviewed with a lot of leading companies like GAM, JPMFleming, Barclays Global, Deutsche Asset Management and a few broker-dealers but nothing materialised. Personally I mfeel the interviews have been OK, but it's the issue of not having "London(City) experience". I have a dual citizenship and BA/MBA degrees from reputable schools in the USA and UK.

Most of my experience has been trading support and Investment Admin roles. I'm willing to sacrifice and take a pay cut and consider an entry-level role just to get my "foot in the door"....Ideally I'm looking for an entry-level role in Investment Management. I've registered with a few good recruiting agencies. So if you have any insight, advice, job leads I'd appreciate it....You can post or email me  on --> willlewism@yahoo.com.

Hi!
i actually work at BGI so i kinda know what you're looking for.....

are you signed up with agencies?  i know it's frustrating but if you're with a good one they can be great.  i worked with a guy who helped me get into offers with at Insight Investment but BGI lured me away from them quite quick....the guy who placed me at BGI was ok...but the other guy was GREAT.  Actually listened to what you're looking for etc.

i can PM you his name if you like, he's wonderful.

also i got really frustrated as i'd interview and not hear from places until months later.  that made me angry!!!!!

but i'm happy where i landed.  i'd also look at smaller investment firms...there are tons around.

also, don't be too willing to take huge paycuts...if the job is right and you are right, they should remember that.  the people i really liked recruiter wise were the people who reminded me of that and fought for me.......
