Your baby can use either passport seeing as she is a dual national. My baby boy was born here in the UK as well. I applied for his British Passport first, traveled back to the states and went through customs no problems. The only difference is you have to take your baby through the non-US citizens que if she only has the British passport. If she has her American one too, it's much quicker to get through customs

I'd ignore this obviously well meant advice as it may cause problems at the border.  It may be that 9 times out of 10 you won't get a problem as the immigration officer won't realise, but it's not worth the risk.

I'm not sure how you were able to do that, because while the US permits dual citizenship, it doesn't recognise it which means that US citizens must use their US passports at the border, either coming or going.

You may have been able to do this that time, but it's not something I would recommend for the future.
