Yanks in Blackheath area?
« on: July 05, 2005, 11:18:48 AM »
We're in the process of buying a place in Blackheath and I've heard that there are quite a few Americans in the area.  I've noticed that the little grocery store stocks some American treats like Karft Mac & Cheese which was a nice surprise.

Anyone in Blackheath or the surrounding areas?  I'm originally from Dallas, hubby is English and we've been in England for almost 12 years.  Our little boy is almost three (will be attending Blackheath Montessori) and we're expecting a little girl in November.  I'd love to get some info/gossip on the area, schools, playgroups, etc.

Hi

We have lived here in Blackheath for the last nine years. We have three children aged three thru nine. I would be happy to answer any of your questions! Ask away!

Wonderful!  Where do I begin?  Basically, we've only spent time in the area at the weekends when there are lots of people coming in from all over the place to enjoy the heath.  I've heard that it's a much more quiet place during the week and that there's a real sense of community.  Would you agree with that?  I've also heard it's a great place to raise children, which is one of the big reasons we're moving there.

I'm starting to visit the various primary schools because I've been told that I need to get Toby down this autumn for Reception.  On my list at the moment is John Ball, St Margarets of Lee and All Saints.  Are there any others you would recommend I visit?

The other thing I would like to find is a good Mommy & Me type group for me and baby No2.  I'm having the baby in Farnborough so will miss out on the Blackheath antenatal classes.  I'm waiting to hear from the NCT for some information on classes.  Is there a local organisation or someone I should contact for further info?

Thanks so much for your help!

Sorry for the delayed response ,yesterday was chaos here at work. Check your messages. I have sent you a phone number, My DW would be most suited to answer the school questions. She has friends with kids in all three of the schools you mention.
