Rechargable battery question

Potentially silly question alert!

I still haven't decided if I am going to dump all my electronics or bring a select few and buy a converter. If I do go the converter route, is there any reason my Ni-Cad battery charger would not work/charge effectively?

If you go to a converter/transformer it should work fine, mine does. My battery charger is also dual voltage so if I'm not at home I can still charge my batteries. It was fairly inexpensive and I got it from Radio Shack.

No reason at all, so long as you feed the charger with suitable power.

Some of the newer types of charger will run on anything between about 90 and 250 volts input anyway, which you can check by looking at the label.   Even if it will run on only 120V, it will be just fine through a suitable transformer.

Would the same hold true for a camcorder rechargeable battery?  I am planning to buy one before we head over there, but need to know if I'll need a special charger?

Yes, the same applies.  The type of battery and use to which it is put is immaterial. 

So long as either  (a) the charger will accept 240V or (b) you run it through a transformer to get 120V, it will be fine.
