We've planned a week's holiday in Plymouth at the beginning of August. I've skimmed over web sites and such but was wondering if any members who live in the area have any scoop advice? Where to go, "hidden" beaches, not to miss restaurants, etc. Any and all tidbits welcomed!
I know I'm late - where's the booze?

Hi, we are in the Torquay area, not too far from Plymouth, so can't really help you with places that the "locals" hang out.  However, there are two eating establishments that I would highly recommend 1) Tanner Bros. restaurant, James Tanner is one of the chefs on Ready, Steady Cook, does nice food and its in a beautiful old building, 2) Captain Jasper's, not posh and probably not healthy, but they do a pretty good hamburger!  Its down on the Barbican (which is a must see, Mayflower steps are there).

Not sure about beaches in that area, but the Torbay (that would be Torquay & Paignton) are alright and hubby said that Burgh Island and Thurlestone are really nice.

If I can think of anything, will let you know!  Have fun!!

Oooh, my husband went to college in Plymouth and one of his best friends never left!

I'm going to email him and see what he says.... I'll let you know when I get a reply.   :D

Twisted, PM vnicepeeps. She lives right in Plymouth city centre and her husband has lived there most of his life. She's not on UKY as much as she used to be but I know she's be very happy to share their 'must see' places.

When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon
