Local Book Clubs?
« on: August 31, 2005, 11:39:57 AM »
I live in the Peterborough/Northampton area and was looking for a book club to join.  Ideally it would be a good mix of young and old... but really anything would do.  when i moved here i thought it was just temporary, but now i'm loving my serious realtionship, and will proabbly stay here for the long term.  the only scary thing is that b/c i thought it was temporary, i didn't make the hugguest effort to get out and meet new people, now my friends consist of my boyfriend's friends' wives, which is fine but they're not all my cup of tea... any suggestion on where to look would be great!

You might try a local bookshop. Sometimes bookshops host their own reading groups. If they don't have one, perhaps they'd be willing to let you put up flyers so you could recruit members for your own book club. Just a thought. I started my own book club when I moved over here and it's been great!

I have often thought of joining a book club, but never have.  I am such a book-a-holic that it seems unusual to not be in a book club as well.  But, I suppose, for me, reading is such a private thing, an escape, that I don't think I could share it with others, on a time schedule.  And, trying to get a group of people to agree on which book to read?  Nightmare.  That being said, if I lived close to you, Meggles, I probably would give it a go.  Good luck in starting it up and keeping it going.
