« on: July 11, 2005, 02:21:06 AM »

Hi guys-

I am heading back to SF in mid August....was wondering if anyone can recommend any particularly cheap or very competitive ONLINE sites ?

Need a car for a week and will need to pick it up at SFO.

thanks in advance

I've always used Alamo or Enterprise.  Your best bet would be to check out the SFO website to see which rental companies have kiosks there.

When I book car hire for clients I use a site called Holiday Autos.....They base their car rental on the $ exchange rate.....and they update dailey....

I use them myself for car hire and booking online you always get a great rate and purchase THE MAX as well
if you are wanting a 2nd drive....and a full tank of gas that you wont have to prepay for when you get there......

any questions just ask

I have had success with hotwire.com too. I usually use orbitz.com first, since it lines all of the quotes up in a nice chart, and then use that as a baseline to get the feel for what the prices are for the area. That way, if I do stumble across a bargain, I will know it. Good luck and enjoy SF. Awesome city!:)

If you are in the virgin flying club, you can get a discount on hertz and avis.  Also, if you go to google and type in "XXXX discount code" or "XXXX coupon code" where XXXX is the rental company you can get codes to quote.

Heyhey-
Thanks to all of you for your usual lightning fast repsonses.

-The Holidayautos.com does not rent out of SFO.
-Orbit did have the price comparison but prices seem very average
-Same with Hotwire..average quotes.

i will continue to google for more offers...perhaps i will stumble on a " special " .

Cheers
Zu

Meshell..wow..thanks for taking the time to explain in detail.

You wanna know whats really scary ? ( Nah just kiddin:) ) the dates you picked are exactly my rent/return dates .
The site you gave me did not have SF on their drop down menu..oh well i guess i didnt snoop around long enough.

Thanks for the effort, but i think thats more than what i had in mind for a 7 day rental...the best rate i googled was  USD$165 total,  per week , unlimited miles , for the smallest car, but i thought that was still to high .

Cheers
