Longing to get back to the U.S.?

I notice the majority of people posting on this particular thread are the ones who have no desire to move back and are even repulsed by the idea, so it's kind of a skewed sampling. I'm one of those people who didn't move to the UK because I hated or had a problem the US -- in fact, I still love it, and I'm openminded to moving back someday if that happens. I'm sure the majority of expats didn't leave the US because they hated it. There is absolutely nothing wrong with living there, and judging by the amount of people who have immigrated there themselves, it's a wonderful place to live. Maybe the people on here have a problem with it because they came from an unpleasant area, or they hate it simply because they associate it with their former lives which brings back unhappy memories for them. I'm sure there's alot more to the story than being repulsed by the entire country. 

I agree with this statement it seems that most people on this website have strong anti-America feelings and that could have been caused by problems they have had in the past or just having had unhappy former lives in the U.S.  When I first came to the UK I was leaving an unhappy life behind from growing up with an abusive father and I really didn't like the U.S. and thought the UK was so much better then the U.S.   However after and meeting and marrying a wonderful British man who has built up my self esteem I can see clearly how much, after living in the UK for 5 years, better life is in the U.S. then the U.K. 

My husband's family is very wealthy and live in the UK and my family are middle class in live in the U.S. and my family's quality of life is much higher then my husband's family.   In fact everytime we go visit the U.S. we compare the two countries and the UK always comes up short.  If you go to any reputable website on the internet and compare the two countries the U.S. always outranks the UK in quality of life.  Just one example, according to the UN Human Development Report, the U.S. ranks number 8 of best countries to live in the world while the UK is at number 13.  Link to report.  http://hdr.undp.org/reports/global/2004/

We have six months left in the UK and are counting down the months, days and hours we have until we move back to the U.S.

I can see clearly how much, after living in the UK for 5 years, better life is in the U.S. then the U.K. 

Perhaps life for you is better in the US. I understand that. But don't assume that it is for everyone.

Huh?  I don't have anti-American feelings at all.  My father was a first generation American, he loves it there, as do all my family.  Good on them! 

I didn't have 'problems in the past' or 'unhappy w/my former life' or low self-esteem.  I just prefer it here, plain and simple!  For me, quality of life has nothing to do w/material htings - it is mostly about more time w/my family, and I could never get as much in the US as I have in the UK. 

I sometimes wonder how people work things out in the "real world" when people don't agree 100% with them.  I mean, you can't simply delete yourself from the world, can you?

Man, I could use a good book.  The last one I read was so-so, and the one before that was a big fat "why did I bother?!"!!

I think I'll just re-read Man Walks Into a Pub. 

I just read a great book. It is called "Mr. Everits' Secret . . . What  I Learned From The WOrld's Richest Man" by Alan Cohen.
