Reasonable time frame applying for fiancee visa?
« on: July 20, 2005, 10:10:08 PM »
My fianceé and I are getting married Febuary 24 2006 in the UK. She's in the US I'm in the UK. We would like her move here as soon as possible.

We're planning on posting the FLR application on the 25th of Feb.

Trying to work out the soonest she could apply for the fianceé visa and still have enough time to apply for FLR after the wedding.

Does posting the fianceé visa documents on the 26th of August seem ok?

you are cutting it a bit close I wouldnt recommend it, I'd give atleast a month between the marriage date and the fiancee visa expiration date. You're only giving a day or two between ur wedding and the expiration of her visa.  Anything can happen that might delay u applying for an FLR or  the wedding and then she will be forced to go back.  Also, someone correct me if I am wrong , but don't you have to apply for an FLR no less then a month before it expires?

I'd worked it out as a week between the wedding and the expiartion of her visa Just reaslied I proabbly got that wrong. I was thinking the visa would mostly likley be issued around the 31st of Auguts, and 6 months on from that would be March 3rd.

But 26 weeks from August 31st, would be March 1st.

You probably are cutting it a bit fine, but I wouldn't worry too much about it.  An extention for the Fiance Visa isn't terribly difficult to get if you need it.  And I think the rules state that you have to be married within six months from the issue of the visa, but unless I'm mistaken, you don't have to get the FLR within that amount of time.  (EnglandsYank, you're thinking of the conversion from FLR to ILR...that bit of the process does require you to apply four weeks before the FLR expires.)

My Finacee Visa was issued the very day they got my application, even though it wasnt offically approved and sent back to me for two weeks after that.  So you may want to hold out if you can and delay your application slightly.

Also, you mentioned your wedding date being 24 Feb, and wanting to send your application off on the 25th.  Unfortunately this won't be possible because you'll need your original marriage certificate and here in the UK, these usually take 7-10 days to get to you.  So keep that in mind too!
