Edinburgh, Here I come!
« on: July 20, 2005, 07:45:07 PM »
I've been offered a place in the MBA program at Queen Margaret University College!  This means that I'll be able to live in Scotland for the next 3 years if the Fresh Start program goes into effect as planned.

The continuing saga of a 55 year old student dealing with visas, roommates, part time jobs, and the elusive work permit starts now.

P.S. Expat,  You have a babysitter for the next 3 years if you like!

Congratulations, that's awsome! Even though I am heading your way (New England) I am envious of you living in Edinburgh!

It's wonderful and you should be proud of yourself

Cool beans!  Queen Margaret just achieved university status recently.  They've got a lovely new campus, I hear.  The Speech Therapy programme moved from University of Edinburgh to there as of this semester, and Queen Margaret made a fortune selling up their properties around town (including a gorgeous Victorian building about 2 blocks away from our home, now being converted in a lovely hotel).

QMUC is our family school now.  My sister and her daughter-in-law are at Corstorphine and Leith respectively.  My niece's soon-to-be  step-mother is a grad.

The new campus is expected to open in 2007-08. My sis will be there for her last year.  Niece and I will graduate before the move.

I'll be asking you for advice after I look at accomodations.  I know where I'd like to live (Corstorphine, right next to the campus), but then there's what I can afford.      ???

The Leith property is under offer.  That's the one right near us.  Permission has been granted to the buyers to convert it to a hotel.  Think it's going to be a nice one - there are plenty of B&Bs around there, but no hotels.

Dalry and Gorgie are near enough to Corstophine.  They can be a bit noisy and crowed, however, as there is a large population of students and 'young professionals', but on the other hand it's affordable.
