Update:  Party went well, although just as the band started to set up and play, the heavens opened up and the downpour came and lasted the whole time!!  So, we scrambled about and rearranged things and they ended up playing in the house. 

anyway,,,around 40++ natives and a few "foreigners" ate the most fantastic gumbo, red beans & rice and bread pudding (which was to die for, I was told  :)) and they were entertained by some beautiful cajun/bluegrass music.  Not bad for a Sunday afternoon in south devon!

Thanks so much for your recipes, they really were a hit and the nicest part was the fact that there were hardly any leftovers!!

So glad that all went well! Just hearing the menu made my mouth water...guess it's time to dig out the gumbo pot and make some up!
