NI Number
« on: July 27, 2005, 08:50:38 PM »
Andrea arrives in the UK on a 1 year student visa in the next 13 days :).  I'm trying to get a few things ready for her and was wondering how she should go about getting an NI number.  I presume she will need one due to the fact she can work part time on the visa.

Thanks for your help.

She just needs to call the local Job Centre to make an appointment for an interview.  Be forewarned, though -- many JobCentres won't grant an interview until Andrea has already secured a job.

Many Thanks Lola, just one more question.  If they don't allow an interview unless she has a job what happens if she starts the job before the interview ??

Many Thanks

Her job will issue her a temporary NIN.  Once she gets the "real" one, she'll just give it to the payroll dept and they'll update her records.
