Also, does anyone know of a good farmer to buy local produce from in the Aberdeen area?

There's a farmers market in Stonehaven on the 1st Saturday of every month, in Market Square.
There's also a regular one in Banchory, but i dont know the details.

On 27/8 there is a farmers market being held in Aberdeen (Belmont Street)... i dont know how often they run this one, but you could try googling if you need further info.

Lakeland sells these bags called 'StayFresh' that really, really do work!  I use them for all our produce.  They're re-usable as well.

Spoke to MIL this morning and we are off to the Farmer's  market tomorrow. I am very excited and DH  is  supportive..after watching Dispatches last night..I  think he is a believer as  well..and  we  are looking to  figure out which fruits are indeed in season..   at what times..

www.lakelandlimited.co.uk.  They ship everywhere.  It's a brilliant company loaded with wonderful products for cooking, baking, laundry, etc.  The bag really do keep food fresher longer.

You can also freeze a lot of these fruits for use later, particularly in baking.

Thanks expat_in_scotland. We may have to check the one in Stonehaven out this weekend. We know about the one here locally, but unfortunately, we always seem to be out of town when its on! :( Anyway, thanks again for the info! :)

Yes I'll second that - they're brilliant. Really good for a whole lettuce when you just want a few leaves each day, rather than buying a pre-washed, pesticide sprayed selection. :-\\\\
