worried -slightly wrong name on visa?
« on: September 01, 2005, 02:34:49 PM »
I just recieved my stuff back from the ny consulate and when I looked at my visa something jumped out at me and made me go "Oh no!"

ok here's the story:

I was divorced in 2001, but like a dope kept my married last name of Roy
Sept 2002 I got a passport
In July of 2003 I decided to leaglly change back to my maiden name of Karcz
After I did so I amended my passport

when i applied last week for my fiancee visa, everything was filled out in my current legal last name
I even included a certified copy of the court decree changing my name back to Karcz

So when I got my visa... it says Roy, Jennifer Jean!

Is this going to cause a problem? Cause I have my flight booked for tomorrow night!

On second glance I see that the stuff at the bottom of the visa is the same <<<<<<< stuff and passport # etc that's on the photo page of my passport.

Hmmm....I wish I could say 'no, this will cause no prob at all', but potentially it could.  I don't know, but I think you should be ok if you just carry all of your documentation with you, which shows all the name changes, ect.  Hopefully they will accept that.  :-\\\\  Wish I could be more encouraging.

yeah that's what Alex just said on the phone.  After all, they issue FLR to the name in the passport not the married name, so it kind of makes sense sort of that they'd issue my entry clearance in the name originally in the passport.  I've got the certified copy of my name change anyway.  I'm only a tiny bit paranoid that's all.

They issued by visa in my married name, but I had had my passport amended.  The thing is when they amend your passport, instead of just getting a whole other passport, they just simply put a stamp in the back stating that you have changed your name to such and such.  Because of this I still have to carry around my marriage certificate when I travel in order to satisfy both the airline and immigration.

Hi, I'm a newcomer here. Congrats on your acceptance.

I'm a little concerned though, my application arrived one day after yours, but I still haven't even gotten the confirmation e-mail..  ???

Was it the NY consulate you sent it to?

And in regards to my original post, I called the consulate (well the 900 number) and a nice Irish fellow called Michael verified that they issued it under Roy because that was the original name in the passport.

Gotta love it when they're nice. :)
