Chicken Boullion?
« on: August 07, 2005, 06:17:38 PM »
Has anyone seen this in the grocery stores here?  It is usually near the soup at the grocery stores back home.  I use it in my broccoli soup and I can't make it without.  Also, I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I haven't seen Campbell's here.  I am looking for Cream of Chicken and Cream of Mushroom to cook with-does anyone know where Campbells can be found or a substitute for the above?

Pretty sure it's in the area with gravy granules and things along those lines rather than near the soup. I shop online, so I'm not 100% certain, but that's where it is in our little local market. Nicer grocery stores also have the concentrated kind in the jar rather than just stock cubes which I think tend to be a bit nicer....

I cook with Campbell's cream of chicken and cream of mushroom soups from time to time - they do exist here. I do my shopping with Ocado (which is Waitrose) and they always have it. So does my little corner store, so my guess is that most supermarkets would have them.... Tesco and Waitrose both do own brand "cream of" soups that are just as good as Campbells....

The boullion cubes are (for whatever reason  ::)) in the freezer aisle above the frozen yorkshire puddings.  I guess they think that people who use boullion cubes don't know how to make their own yorkshires.  ;)  Look for the Oxo brand.  You can also find bottled stock concentrates in the soup aisle. (This all varies according to supermarket, of course -- my experience is with Asda and Tesco.)

No Campbell's here, but there's plenty of cream of mushroom and cream of chicken soup!

I shop at Tesco's in the city centre in Birmingham and I searched and searched but couldn't find it.  I guess it's got to be there.  Thanks.  I'll look for it in the freezer section too. ::)

I've never seen any up here -- but then again, I've always bought store brands of soup because I could never seeing paying so much more for Campbells!  I'm cheap!   :D

The problem is that most soups aside from Campbells are not condensed soups, so you can't really substitute them in recipes if they aren't condensed.

I use Campbells all the time - creams of chicken, asparagus, mushroom & tomato.

I also use the cubes for soup bases - I use the Sainsbury's brand.
