The term 'Roast'
« on: August 10, 2005, 05:08:30 PM »
So, is roasting just cooking meat at a low temp for a long period of time?

I want to roast my turkey legs, but then i think 'well, isn't that baking?'

I  think the difference is with roasting you coat it or baste it with oil (or whatever) whereas baking is dry. /;]'/

That's my definition too...

like when you cook roast turkey for thanksgiving you usually baste it during the cooking to seal in the juices....or get the self-basting kind.

yet, it is called "roast" beef isn't it...and I don't do much to it...well, I do dump beer over it while it is cooking...

Wow, he's so young to be writing code ;)

Whilst I changed the topic (sorry couldn't resist) can you guys please remind me of the American versions, broiled, shredded (grated?) etc- ooh I'd forgotten this stuff. I *think* broil is *grill*? It's just so close to boil!

OK, I'm on another planet today.

The first thing that popped to mind were the old Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts...

Or the Roasts on Comedy Central  (ever seen one of those)?

There was just one for Pamela Anderson.  I didn't get to see it, I wish I could have!
