Another fiancee visa question!
« on: August 09, 2005, 07:48:10 PM »
You have all been so helpful to me, and I thought of another few questions I am not sure about.  If I apply online, where do I send my documents?  Can I print a form, fill it out, and send in all at the same time?  Will I HAVE to be interviewed at the embassy in Chicago (my area), or is that something that isn't always required?  How do 'they' decide if someone needs to be seen in person?  Thanks for the help again!
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.

If you apply online then you simply mail the documents in to your nearest consulate office (Chicago). You do not have to be interviewed if you apply by post. I applied by post and was chosen for a phone interview (it appears some of the choosing is random. They simply called me and we set up a time for the phone interview. The phone interview lasted only about 5-10 minutes and was simply them basically reasking the questions on the application. It was quick, easy and painless even though I was in a panic about it.

I applied on-line, and Fed-ex'd my docs the following day (I sent them next day, afternoon delivery).  My application went to the LA Consulate.  They didn't look at my application until about two days after it arrived.  The woman working on my application called me because she couldn't find my fiancee's passport in my papers (it was there, and she did find it).  She called me the next day to discuss my application, but it wan't a scheduled interview.  She did ask me a few questions, but her first comment was "when did you want your visa to be valid from", as I am not getting married until Nov, and applied in July.

I don't know if this information helps you.  I don't know if I would have received a call if she'd not misplaced his passport.  I did sent in quite a bundle of papers though, and she did make a comment about how was she going to get it all back to me.

Good luck!  It was easier (and quicker) than I had thought, but perhaps it was because of all the helpful information I got from these boards!   :)
