How did you decide?
« on: August 13, 2005, 08:33:42 AM »
I know alot of you came over for LOVE reasons.  Some of you came over for jobs and some had family here....My Q is this.......(I love asking Q's by the way!) ;D How did you decide on the town/county you are living in?  Did you visit prior tons of times?  Did you do a lot of reading and came across it and "that's exactly where I want to be?"  You all have named some great places (see thread below)....What was it that made that particular town stand out?

Easy for me. I was born here and have a huge network of relatives nearby. Plus, I'm now renting a little cottage directly across the road from where my grandparents used to live -- and where I lived as a child. Talk about coming full circle!

DH and i both got jobs in Edinburgh.
We couldnt afford to buy a house in Edinburgh, so had to look slightly further afield.
I drive, but he doesn't, so it had to be a town with a train station.
It also had to be easy to get to Glasgow, as DH is a Rangers season ticket holder, and goes to Glasgow every other weekend for the football and to see his parents.
We visited Linlithgow, and thought it was really nice... beautiful scenery, lots of history, good pubs, good train service.
So that's how we ended up here!

I found work in London and so began the search near work.  I originally found a flat right in the same location as my job (St Johns Wood) as it was advertised by a workmate.  So that was just ease of choice and ease of transport.   My new place in Kilburn (a bus or tube ride away) was a compromise between being near the area I wanted to live in (West Hampstead...where much of my social and sporting life is located) and cost of living (a house in WH would have been WAY more expensive) and trying not to be too close to where I work and seeing the kids/parents all the time (they are lovely but it's good to have a breather).

DH was living here (on the street where we live) in a flat...I was living in Tampa Bay, FL.  He had the better job, so I moved over here & in with him.  Then we bought a house right across the street from the flat we used to rent. :)
