IT contractor acting as a fiancee visa sponsor - recommended?
« on: August 10, 2005, 11:40:17 PM »
Hi all,
My girlfriend just went back to the States (she's a US citizen, I'm British) and I miss her like mad already.  Anyway, this isn't the time for me to get teary eyed, what I need is some practical advice and after reading around I reckon this is a good place to get it.

We are thinking of applying for a UK fiancee visa so she can come back over here (the UK) and we can marry.

I am going to act as the visa sponsor, and my question regards how best to provide evidence of financial stability.

I work as an IT contractor and am employed by my own limited company, of which I am the sole director.

I can provide bank statements for the last 6 months which show a nearly regular monthly income for all bar one month, when I, or rather my company, did not have a contract.

I can get a letter stating that I am in employment and detail my salary.  However, as I am my own employer, I would be the one to write that letter.  Upon reading this letter, I do wonder if the person processing our visa application will laugh our application out of their offices along with our dreams of being together in the near future.

Excluding my income, I do not have any financial assets to base the sponsorship on.  If joint sponsorship is necessary, and possible (I do not know if it is), then my parents are willing to act as sponsors too.

How I can best prove my financial stability in our fiancee visa application given my employment situation?

E

self employment is fine. you will just have to show proof of ur income and ur business. 6 months of bank statements is fine as well. I brang 6 months of my guys statements and they only really looked at the most recent and they just skimmed past the rest. What they will be looking for (if you are going to be financially supporting her until u are married) is a regular source of income. If she has bank statements of her own that will be helpfui as well.

Thanks for the advice, you've really put my mind at ease.  Bring on the visa application!

It's fine.  Follow the instructions on their site, and don't work yourself into a manic-panic.  Put the stuff they want to see as attachment to her application and don't worry about it.  IT contractors are fully invested as credible sponsors and it is not really a big deal.

Just go for it.
