Weekday vs. Weekend Clothes

In Madrid, I was astounded by the number of women able to walk quite briskly on cobbled paths in heels.  And in Paris, in how women always looked so pulled together and had just the right makeup. 

Or Italian women sitting side saddle on mopeds in little pastel suits and sheer tights!

Academics do this as well.

and engineers.

I have to dress up for work every day so I am a bit more casual on the weekend, but I don't swing to the total opposite end of the spectrum.  This weekend I had errands to run, so it was a pair of low cut, flaired jeans with an ironed black tee-shirt, and black pointed toe mules with a small heel.  Hair in a neat pony, and the same makeup I do during the week which isn't totally overboard, just polished.  And some silver jewelry.

I would DIE before I went out of the house in sweats, flip flops, no make up, dirty hair, etc.      It's not that I really care what anyone else does, I just can't be seen like that!!  I got it from my mom - she's the same way. 

But if I'm home cleaning house and know I won't be going out then I will throw on some shorts and a baggy shirt.

It's been a good while since I was single, but at least in Marylebone and the West End, Tescos were absolutely superb  places for women to meet new men and vice-versa.  Especially between 8 - 1030PM.  I remember stumbling into this phenomonon quite innocently back  in the mid-90's, and then the BBC ran a documentary about singles life and explained that Tesco's (and similar stores) were still the 2nd most  popular meeting spot for more older British women who were uncomfortable in pubs and not the right age for the rave clubs.  The last time I saw a survey about "pulling spots", it was still in 2nd place as the  favorite.  I met several women there in both long-term and short-term mode.  The shortest beging for about 5-6 weeks; the longest being on-again off-again over the course of about 5 years.

So it wouldn't surprise me if people were dressy-uppy, making a good impression is important...,

Same here.  I just can't go out in tatty clothes, no make-up, etc.  If others can, great, but it's just not a look for me.

I have to often go out in my 'sweats' with no makeup as I'm on my way to field hockey or cricket training.  I've always been a more relaxed person in terms of looks...probably being a tomboy and sport jock!  If you see me IN makeup during the daylight hours then you have seen a RARE event.  I do admit that I've gotten a bit more into looking better by moving over here...but only a touch!  Luckily my bf loves my natural sporty self!

I tend to dress more casual here than I did in the US (the area in the US I was living was more into hip hop labels and timberland fashions).....any place wherever you go there is that cosmos of "must be a la mode" in order not to stand out...I like taking pride in my appearance but sometimes it's not easy with a little one...you leave the house in a nice pair of jeans and a smart t-shirt and before we've even left the tube Jess has already stained my trouser leg with tube train black smut....there used to be a time that she just used my trousers as a wash cloth...even though I carried wet wipes...
