Saw this recently,you have to register for the full article.

Foreign citizens who change planes at airports in the United States can legally be seized, detained without charges, lawyers for the government said Tuesday.

My two girls recently had to change airlines because of the BA strike.  They were taken aside, had their bags searched and were 'patted down'.  The reason was because of the change of plans.  Makes you wonder who's in charge if they think their biggest threat is two Surrey school girls.
