Need opinions, quick please!
« on: February 15, 2007, 03:52:27 PM »
Got this idea, (I'm totally into trying new things, and experimenting) when I was a kid my mom used to make the BEST onion rings, using pancake batter. Well, I wanted to try making chicken nuggets with the same batter, but I'm not sure it will turn out. I did find a recipe online, where people used a similar batter for other veggies besides onions, (like brocoli) so I just wanted to know what other people thought. Will it work? Taste good? thanks all!!

I'd give it a whirl! If it doesn't work, then just don't make it again.
I love onion rings!!!!

I think it would work, especially if you know it works for onions.

thanks guys. Thing is, I'm cooking the chicken first, then I thought I'd put it in the fridge and get cold, then cut it into cubes, then batter and fry it. I think I wasn't supposed to cook it first, but I want to do biggish pieces. (like strips) I'll just do one piece, if it doesn't work, then I'll use the rest of the chicken for something else.

They were absolutely delicious!! It totally worked, better than I thought it would. I gave my husband one when he got home, didn't tell him what was in it.....he said 'Pakoras!!'. (He's asian.) I said, Just taste it! He took a bite, and said, 'Extremely, extremely, extremely excellent.'
Way too good, I'm never buying chicken nuggets again.

It sounds as if it would be good with a lot of veggies - mushrooms, courgette sticks, etc.

It sounds a bit like a tempura batter, which is much nicer than most! Not quite as dense. It's a bit thinner and tastes really good with broccoli and other various veggies. My friend worked at the Melting Pot in the US, so we went for dinner one night. She took a mushroom, stuffed it with blue cheese, dipped it in the tempura batter, and stuck it in the oil. Delicious!!!

It is sort of like tempura, I've used that before. It really is versatile, and sooooo good!

We've used a similar batter to do deep fried scallops.  Soooo yummy and easy.  The cook very quick!
