Hello, all...

My husband and I are trying to figure out how to move to the UK, and I was wondering whether anyone had ever used this website (http://www.immigrationexpert.com/uk/ [nofollow] ).  They offer free assessments as to your potential eligibility under various Visa types, but then to go any further there is a fee, whereby they offer advice on how to improve your chances and also forms for actually completing your application.

The site seems fairly reputable, but I am wondering how necessary or helpful this may be.  My husband and I seem to be (just barely) eligible under the Skilled Migrant Programme, at least according to this site, but are wary of going any further and spending money unless we are more sure it would be worthwhile.

Just wondering if anyone has used this site when applying and immigrating, and if you have any opinions on it.

Thanks!  :)

If the site folks are going to work with you to present a sure-fire application, then maybe they are worth the money.  If all they are offering is advice, you can get that here free.

That said, I applied for the HSMP on my own.  I was so certain I would get the visa, but the Home Office refused me and refused my requests for re-evaluation.   Now I know that I should have included reams of back-up (organization chart, equivalent position postings, performance evaluations showing how my position evolved over the years, etc.) for my claim for points in work experience.

Knowing what I know now, I would have used an agency if they offered a no-visa, no-payment option.  Good luck.
When I find a funnier sig than twistedncynical's, it will be here.

FYI...this is an Australian website, so it may have information more geared towards them moving to the UK than towards Americans.

You don't need to pay anyone if you do your homework. if you apply and it's refused for whatever reason the embassy will explain to you the reasons why then all you need to do is deal with the reason (or reasons) one by one.....  anyone you pay to EXPEDITE the process is only going to get the same results as you would if you filed on your own........save yourself the cash, if you're eligible you're eligible, the British Consulate in America is very American friendly and that's basically what it boils down to.....eligibility .....poke around the British Consulate site (it's listed somewhere here), it'll answer all your questions. 8)

Thanks everyone!  I really appreciate your advice...it does sound to me like anything they could help us with we could probably figure out on our own as long as we do our homework.  This board has been great for answering questions already, and you guys help for free!  ;)

Thanks again...
