Homeschooling

Hey ya'll,

If we get the chance to move over to Liverpool next September, I'll need to Homeschool my children.  My daughter will be 4 in a couple weeks.  I know in the UK children start Kindergarten at 4.  Next September she would be starting K here.  So if we go over next Sept, and I put her in public school over there, she'll be a year behind.  If I don't put her in PS there, and we come home for the following Sept, she'll be a year behind here.  So, homeschooling is the best alternative to that.

I was wondering if anyone else had experience with this overseas or even here in the States.
Thanks!

Jen

I think you'll find that children are very adaptable at that young age.

Last year, we moved from England to Chicago.  I cannot tell you how much sleep I lost worrying about my son, who was six at the time.  He was going into US first grade with two full years of school under his belt in England.

He adapted amazingly well and is very happy.  If you are concerned, my best advice is to talk to your daughter's teacher in the UK once you know where you are living and where your daughter will go to school.  Discuss your situation and I'm sure you'll find that the teacher will be receptive to your concerns.

Good luck.

My son started year 1 here when he was 5. He adjusted very well and has always been at the top of his class. Kellie is absolutely right. Kids are very adaptable at that age. Also even though I was very nervous about him starting school with a bunch of "foreigners" I knew it would be best for him. We just moved here...fresh off the plane and I wanted him to make friends as soon as possible. Its important for kiddies to learn social skills!
