Managers who know nothing about FLR
« on: August 23, 2005, 04:50:11 PM »
My married name doesn't match my passport. I only had one problem with a manager telling me I couldn't applyuntil I get the name changed. I know you can't change it in the passport and I told her they only make a note.. But she seemed a bit thick. What do in this situation?

Can you show her your marriage certificate?  Or just work under your maiden name if you don't want to have your passport amended?

I took my marriage certificate and she was like, "You to have a passport." Stupid cow. I'm so mad, she had no clue what she was talking about. Jamie called back for me and explained the FLR visa and she told him I could use that... This is after I got so pissed off and ripped up the application.

Maybe she was trying to confirm that you have the right to work in the UK?  In future cases, you can print out images of the various stamps issued by the Home Office from their website that are there for employers to use to confirm whether or not someone can work in the UK.

Or take that letter the Home Office gave you with your visa, the one that says you can work and blah blah blah.

Sorry about that, hon.   :-\\\\

Get your name amended in the passport as soon as you can. Even though it's still a note in the passport, it's still an amendment and recognised by the Home Office. The only problem you should have after that is the check in people at the airport telling you you're not booked (they can't be bothered to look at the amendment)...  but that's another story.

Your marriage certificate means that you maiden-name and you married-name are the same person.

When I got my FLR, it came with a letter from the home office which explained exactly what the FLR means, including the right to work.  Did you get such a letter? Would it be helpful to show to the manager?
