Is this insane??? (Canada???)
« on: September 24, 2005, 03:27:57 PM »
We both love the idea of eventually settling in Nova Scotia or another part of Canada (Nova Scotia because of the strong Scottish element). I've been there, and it's gorgeous. It would be cheaper to live there, there's economic growth and Nova Scotia wants immigrants (unlike a lot of the UK), it's more like the UK (especially Scotland) than many parts of the US, it would be much easier for my fiance to get citizenship there, and it's closer to my family. PLUS, we'd both be expats together instead of just one or the other, in a "neutral" country.

So... what's a way for us to legally live in Canada together, if one of us is an American citizen and one of us is British? Anybody have any ideas?  [smiley=blush.gif]

There's a start for you and I do know that people actually move to France in order to pick up the language quicker in order to gain those points. I am pretty sure that you can figure out how many points you would achieve on some of the Canadian immigration sites, but looks like it's getting harder to get into Canada.

How would it be easier for fiancee to naturalize there, is he tied to Canada in some way?

Another tip is to read the "Moving Back to the UK forum" as this is often where you can see where people have experienced problems or simply things they hadn't anticipated.

Good Luck!

Oddly enough Honeybee my fiancee would like us to move to Canada within the next 5 years.. it is a good mix of US/UK kind of like how Ireland or rather Dublin is a good mix of UK/US... you've had to be there :D
I'm not too keen on the idea but it would make it easier for my family to come visit, since the Canadian border is only about an hour east of where they live.  :D

The thought of having to have, $9140 Canadian dollars in a secured bank account is a bit daunting though, at least right now.
