Fiance visa or a marriage visa?
« on: September 26, 2005, 10:23:17 AM »
Bf and I have decided to move up the wedding plans, because of the hassles from airport immigration. Since we are doing this, we are not sure which would be better.....apply for fiance visa then the marriage visa in 5 months, or just get married in the US and apply for the marriage visa to return to the UK. We are also thinking of fiancial as well.......$500 for fiance and another $500 for marriage, plus the whole applying for another visa on the marriage. For the marriage visa after the fiance, do you have to go through another interview or anything? Or do you just mail it off? I'm assuming this can be done with in the UK and I wouldn't have to return to the US?

Seems it would be cheaper to get married in the US then the UK and less hassles (ie - register and all the documents needed for that)

As far as the fiance visa.......It askes if you plan to work - well what would the correct answer be? Anyone have any problems with this? I mean, you can't work on a fiance visa, so the answer would be no? My guy makes enough to where I don't have to work, although at some point I would like to (cures the boredom) - so then yes? Or is the yes more for the after your married - Marriage visa? I'm using the VAF2-3 (downloaded off UK visas website) form and it looks like it's just the standard settlement visa used for fiance, marriage and unmarried partners. I'm guessing once we're married, I would fill out the same form for the marriage visa and on that I would answer yes? I don't want them thinking I'm unable to work and therefor more likely to get public funds, because that is definately not the case. And I most definately don't want them thinking I'll be working while on a fiance visa.

I applied for the fiancee visa for the UK and it was really easy. I told them I did plan on working, so I could help out with the bills and pay for college... They're not going to have a problem with it. You can always call the consulate, I did about 10 times. Just be honest. It's a bit of money, but there's nothing you can do about that.

Thanks! I just wasn't sure if they would take the yes as working after the marriage or before which isn't allowed on the fiance visa.
