RENTAL QUESTION ?
« on: October 25, 2005, 01:51:44 PM »
I have been speaking to a number of estate agents in London and have been explained if I do not have a job I will have to pay 6 mths up front. (which I understand as I am renting out my house)
But what if we have been offered employment and have  just not started it yet, are they looking for a history i.e. how long you have worked for that employee ?
Also anyone know a good estate agent in London ?
Thanks

If you get a note of employment from your future employer, that should help.

and i can't recommend any estate agents.  ours got us a good place, but she wasn't stellar

I wouldn't bother with an agent in London unless you have to for some reason. There are loads and loads of good places available through private landlords.  I found every place I ever had in London through Loot.

My husband will most likely stay behind in the US and continue to work here for bit while the girls and I find a house and get settled in. We will only have his income from the US for a bit. After reading this post, I'm wondering if finding a rental will be difficult. My husband is self employed and does all work on contracts, often with regular weekly pay, but it can vary from job to job. Does anyone have any experience with a situation like this and did you provide the prospective landlord with any particular documentation?

Thanks,

Rebecca

Self-employed might need a co-signatory.  We had that problem when we were first looking for a place - my husband was self-employed and I wasn't working.  We did find a place that didn't need a co-signatory, but don't be surprised if you're asked for one.

6 months rent?! I have never heard that, which is good since I am a student.

Are you quite sure you are dealing with the right people? That seems very excessive

I found my flat through an agent It made it so much easier, as well as cheaper. I think it depends on picking the right agent, though.

Let's take our wigs off in the shopi aisle and fight it out.
