Got a Delema! Work Visa!
« on: October 18, 2005, 05:57:16 PM »
OK so dig it  ;)...........................

I have many opportunites in working in Scoltand and all the UK for that matter..... problem is, I dont know about getting a work Visa..... I have done extended research .... and frankly im a wee bit exauhsted! I really want to live there before the end of 2006. I shall be a hairdresser in the summer of 2006. currently I am going to school. Ive been in contact with a Salon that would be a dream come true to work for..... They sent me an application and  then they asked me if I needed a UK work Visa. I do ! I thought that from what I read on the websites your employer can only give you a work permit . etc...... They told me to get in contact with the Embassy in regards to that. I am confused?! to say the least. I need out of California ASAP!
Basically the thing is what do I do? Once I get to the UK, I dont want to leave. Any suggestions on what I can do with my CV from so far away? I wouldnt quailfy for the "Higly Skilled" Visa as of yet or if that would even apply to the Hairdressing field.

I also have a Boyfriend who lives in Scotland ( I was in love with the UK before I was in love with him).  Im 21 , hes discussed marrying me, but as we all know the present can not be relied on. We were going to get married in the USA last year but it would have been stupid cause I would have been miserable living here.

Any suggestions...... Ive been peeking through this site/forum I see many websites that may help and will definitely be checking them out.

Thanks for your help! x0x00xx  ???

I guess this immigration and  all this other BS is worth it cause it makes living your dreams all that much more worth while once you step off the plane.

Are your parents both American?  If one of your parents has a EU passport, then you would be free to work legally in the USA.  Other than that, your employer would have to write you a work permit.  They probably told you to contact the embassy because there isn't a shortage in that career field (if I'm not mistaken) and are not used to having to write out work permits.  It costs them money and time too.

It is most unlikely that you will get a work visa for a salon.  You are correct in that the employer has to apply for the work permit on your behalf, and they must also show that they have advertised and that there is no one else in the UK or the EU that is qualified to do the job.  You are a non-EU resident and as such, first crack at the job must go UK or EU residents.  You should also keep in mind that employers bear the financial responsibility of applying for the work permit and this may put them off.
