Store bought frosting and food dye
« on: April 28, 2011, 10:20:49 AM »
I'm going to a party tomorrow and wanted to make a cake or cupcakes. I've got a tub of Betty Crocker frosting that needs eating. Can I mix food dye in it? I was thinking of splitting it in thirds and dying portions into patriotic colors. Is there any reason I couldn't do this? It's a buttercream style frosting, if that makes any difference.

Thanks.

I've done it - no problem when I threw a Halloween party.

Food color just changes the color - it will be fine ;-)

Yeah. It's fine. I have a whole decorating book dedicated to using store-bought icing you dye yourself.
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

I did it a few days ago for an Easter-themed quickie cake.
