Multiple contacts?
« on: October 23, 2005, 02:45:07 AM »
Am absolutely dreading going through immigration again and being grilled.  I'm unable to apply for a fiance visa just yet, because bf's wife refuses to file for the divorce.  They have not been separated 2 years yet, and there is no other grounds for which he can use.  In the meantime, I've been going back and forth on my passport, but getting hassled every time.

So, I was wondering if it would be helpful to say that I'm going to visit several friends, rather than just him?  I have made a few and am fairly sure I can use them as contacts.  Also, what about this "entry clearance" visa?  I've gone to the britainusa website, but not sure if I've downloaded the correct form.  If anyone has an exact address for it, I'd really appreciate it.  Thanks.

When you say you've been hassled, what do you mean? How often have you been here and how long have you stayed each time?

Also I don't want to worry you but if your BF's ex doesn't consent to the divorce he will have to wait until they've been separated 5 years. A divorce after 2 years is by consent.

Been back and forth three times so far this year.  One time for a week, then two times for a 3-4 month period.  Typical grilling is what I mean by hassled.  Tons of questions as to why I'm there, how we met, where I "lived" and so on.  I realize they are just doing their job, but it's the way they do it with the nasty attitude.  I never give them a hard time and always answer all the questions honestly.  Just don't like being treated that way by anyone for any reason.

And yes, I'm painfully aware of the 2 year vs. 5 year situation concerning divorce over there.  I just hope it doesn't come to that!

I thought Americans were only allowed to visit 6 months out of 12 on a tourist visa?  That could be the reason why you're being stopped, especially b/c now, IIRC, both your last entry and exit to the UK are being logged, so it will be easier to catch people out if they're not really coming as tourists.

How about your bf coming to see you a few times to even things out?

It is the VAF1 form.

It says on the top:

NON-SETTLEMENT FORM (VAF1 2003)
THIS FORM IS PROVIDED FREE OF CHARGE

I was totally unaware of the 6 months within a 12 month period rule, until I recently saw it here in a few of the postings! (And thought I'd read through all the immigration sites thoroughly!!!)

And thanks Garry for the information regarding the entry clearance form!
