My friend took it in 2002 and he is a US History teacher. The study materials were pretty intimidating. Can't vouch for the test itself though!

I don't think a citizenship test is going to get any aspiring Simon Schamas cropping up.. :-\\\\

Should individuals wanting to come over have some familiarity with the country they are wanting to reside...yes but not really going to accomplish that through some citizenship test..IMHO

Good luck to anyone having to take it though.

I will be applying my Fiance visa in Dec. Do I have to take this test then or later down the road when I apply my FLR or IRL? Thanks
No, this test is only for people who are applying for citizenship.

So do you mean that I won't have to take it when applying for my ILR in December?  Is the ILR same as citizenship?

ILR is just indefinite leave to remain -- no citizenship rights at all.

Tempted to make a comment about whether or not Americans speak English anyway...but I think I'd better not!

there was an discussion about the "UK life " questions on Radio 2 today and they were naff questions really things like:

1. what two numbers do you dial for emergency services ?
2. what volts does the average household have or something like that

they should REALLY be:

1. what brand of tea should you have if your MIL is coming to visit?
2. what is the average number of hours a british male spends at the pub? ;D :-*
3. name three shops that are on every high street
4. what market sells the best dodgy dvds
5. are mince pies filled with actual meat?  T/F
6. when do fireworks begin to go on sale?
 ;D

happy, I highly doubt you are the only person who believes there should be a citizenship test. I always assumed there was one!

I'm excited for it!
