I applied for my NIN with my maiden name, because I wanted to take care of getting a permanent job and an NIN, before I undertook the name change stuff.
When I went to the identity interview, I showed my marriage certificate and signed something saying that I prefer to use my maiden name. (I told the interviewer that I just hadn't gotten around to changing my name yet.)
When I got my NI card, it came with a form to fill out if there have been any changes to your name or address, so I can fill that form out to show my married name.
The form says "Don't send back the NI card unless you are entitled to a replacement."
The paperwork that came with the card also says, "If you lose your card and need a replacement, telephone the Inland Revenue Contact Centre on 0845 915 7006. Cards are limited to the original issue plus one replacement. You will not be able to obtain any more even if you change your name."
So
If I send in the form saying I've changed my name to my married name, do I get a new card with my new name? I guess this means that if I lose the card that has my married name, I can't get another one?
Am I supposed to send back my original NI card? I really don't want to. I'd rather have a card with my maiden name than no card at all.
