This is very true and I would hate to give inaccurate information.

If you are into American cars, Chrysler has the Neon, Jeep Cherokee, and PT Cruiser here and they are all produced in the states. I don't see bringing an American version of this car any different than the ones sold here as far as core components go.

You will need MOT modifications first, but there are garages that can do this relatively cheap.

Check out: www.chrysler.co.uk & www.mini.co.uk for examples.

Best of luck!

Hi Colly!

Like the rest of the responses - don't bother bringing over your US dishwasher, fridge and kitchen appliances - it's not worth it. To buy a voltage transformer that's capable of running high amperages is going to cost you more than a new fridge from here, then you're going to need it installed and checked for safety standards - then rewiring in your house just for this I'd estimate would cost you at the very least £2000+!!. Then you're going to pay alot for shipping the items over - they're heavvvy = alot of £/$ !!!

Sell off your USA white goods there and collect the dosh. When you get here, you'll find USA size fridge freezers now for around the £500 mark (and more expensive models of course!) and dishwashers for around £250+. Kettles, toasters, microwaves etc are all easily affordable nowadays.

On the subject of cars - Well I imported myself over a 2003 Ford F150 Harley Davidson edition about 16 months ago - It's a 'relatively' straightforward process but is subject to alot of red tape (SVA testing, Import duty of 10% of cars value, VAT, shipping costs, conversion to UK road legal status etc). USA cars do sell here but put quite simply - it's only the 'interesting' US cars that generally make it over. If you have something like that - then by all means look into bringing across - I can give you contact details of a good friend of mine who is a USA Car importer by trade and he can guide you through the complete process - just email me if you want!  If you have an 'ordinary' USA car - my advice is don't bother bringing it over. Like some of the responses, you're going to find it more hassle for maintenence and servicing time as parts may be an issue, I wouldnt' say 'problem' becuase theres quite a few USA parts importers around. I don't know how to post pics on this forum as yet else I'd post one of my F150 Harley!

Hope this helps a bit!

Thanks all for your advice, but we are going to stay here a bit longer now :-(

We have bought a new house a mile away and will be sticking around in good old Arizona till the hubby can find work in England. Lets hope that won't be too far off.
