I was a freakishly shy child and if given the choice I wouldn't have gone.  But I did have a good time and it did force me to be social.  I didn't give my kids a choice but they loved it.  They still talk about it years later, of course I think it helped that they were very exotic with their English accents.  :)

I went to various day-camps between the ages of 5-10 for a few weeks each summer.  I have good experiences at all but one (the one run by a church we didn't belong too- just a bit too much for a 7 year old).  I then started going to a sleepaway camp for 2 weeks each summer until I was 14 or so.   I loved it.  I still keep in touch with some people and even remember my camp boyfriend (and secretly hope to run into him 12 years later)!  Sorry Alicia I am probably not helping to convince your husband.

I think it all has to do with the type of camp you pick and the type of child.  Both of my sisters hated day camp and only went to sleepaway for 1 year.  If it's feasible, I would recommend visiting the camp on parents weekend the year before you are ready to send Jess, just to get a feel for the type of people that run the camp and the type of families who send their children.  I know it's easier said than done.

Totally agree with this.  Also a lot of camps send out there head of camps to visit with the kids and show them videos, pictures etc.

I went to sleep away Bible camps for a few years until I got into sports...then I did sports camps (all sleep away).  Loved 'em!  Except being forced one year to eat everything on the plate...it included porridge & I threw it up (I did warn them first).

I've got few in mind that I might scout out ...Just thought I'd have a look at things now before people start booking up things next year.
But never fear, gentlemen; castration was really not the point of feminism, and we women are too busy eviscerating one another to take you on.
