(dire warnings snipped)
By the way, what is it about British lassies in particular that appeals to you?
Yeah, I've made a number of friends and acquaintances online, and once or twice met people who became real-life GFs. It's not always easy to get a clear idea of who somebody is online, even if both of you are being as open and honest as possible, let alone if either of you is consciously or unconsciously keeping stuff back or trying to appear different from how you really are.
Why do British lasses appeal to me? Well, the wonderful accents for one: I find almost every British accent has its charm for me, whether it's West Country, Midlands industrial, Home Counties, the amazing variety of London, broad Yorkshire, lyrical Welsh, incomprehensible Geordie, mumbly Scouser, hearty Lancashire, clipped Edinburgh, eccentric Glaswegian, or lilting West of Scotland.
Other very *general* observations, prone to as much error as stereotypes usually are: a lot more British women seem to be interested in sport, especially football, than American women. I'm not a total sports nutter, but I do follow a couple of teams and play sometimes, and it's nice when I can share that with someone instead of it falling into the "you have your things, I have mine" category. At least from what I see in personals ads, more British women are accepting of stocky guys, too; I do hike and play sports sometimes, and I'm learning to cycle, but I'm not Brad Pitt, and I'm never going to be either.
Plus, there's the undeniable advantage that, if I'm going to live there, it would be nice to find someone who is already there, instead of having to persuade someone I meet here that, really, she wants to move across the ocean with me. ;-) Of course, there's always the danger of encountering the sort of situation one couple who are friends did: they met online (playing Diplomacy) and fell in love, but he wanted to move here to the States and she would have been happier settling in the UK!
