Help for a Friend.
« on: November 19, 2005, 08:13:48 PM »
I have this friend.. no really I do :)... and she used to be a frequent traveler to the UK (twice a year for a good 4 years) to visit relatives, friends and even a boyfriend a few times.    She hasn't been over in about 18months (finances were tight) and has finally booked a flight over in December to visit some of her relatives in Scotland.
I made the mistake of opening my big mouth and relaying to her some of the Immigration/entry problems others have had from this board and now she is wondering if she will get questioned excessively or even denied entry because of how many times she has visited in the past.
She has a return ticket (for a 12 day stay), will be carrying with her some cash ( $50), a credit and a debit card.    I've told her it shouldn't be a problem, she has nothing to worry about but wants to hear it from some other frequent travelers.
So... Does anyone think she will have a problem entering the UK for the 9th time in 5 1/2 years, a woman traveling alone??

Only Time will tell.. it's just too bad she's a closed mouth B**!!!

I don't think she should have any problem.  She is not doing anything wrong, she has a return ticket and she will tell them she is there for pleasure and what day she is leaving on.

I had more UK stamps in my passport for just a year of travelling and I was fine.  (Granted I was stopped for 5 minutes once because I was stupid enough to say I was there to see my fiance and had no return ticket yet)

Just tell her to relax and make sure to have a great time!!!! ;D  (I know how hard that is, I always worried too!)

Tell her not to worry about immigration, the process takes no more than half an hour with long lines. We moved here in June and own ten rental houses in Texas. Personally, I have traveled roundtrip almost ten times since I moved to the UK.
Just be honest, tell them where you are staying (This is required on the Entry Form) and your stay is less than a month. The immigration officer will look through the passport for stamps from (Terrorist Countries) and swipe it through the machine.
That's it! Simple as that.
For myself, I have to play twenty questions since my passport is almost full and I have been to places on the list like China, Russia, and Saudi.

Let me know if I can help with more questions, it is really easier than you think.

She could always have her boss type her a letter to carry with her as well stating that she has a job shes returning to.

I had my boss do this for me since this time I had a box of personal effects with me to leave with DH as well as my CV for branch there. I didnt do anything illegal by visiting my company's branch but I'm not sure it would have looked great if for any reason I had been tagged for a search.

Good suggestion, I'll pass that along to her.   She's more nervous about going through Passport control, then I am :D
