Islington Farmers' Market
« on: May 06, 2006, 09:22:48 AM »
Has anyone been to the Islington farmers' market (Sunday)?  Opinions?  Does it have a nice variety?

I don't know if this counts as it is a couple of years since I last went to it but they had a fruit & veg stall, bread & cake, cheese/dairy,  meat and some other stuff, like home made jams & chutneys etc  If you go, go early, they sell out of the best stuff quickly.

Thanks!  I'm torn between going there which is closer to us or to Marylebone which appears a larger market.

I would go to Marylebone.  I haven't been to the farmers market there but there are lots of other gourmet food shops around Marylebone High St as well, so you'd probably have a better shopping experience all round there.  Islington Farmers Market is next to a Tesco Metro  ::)

It really all depends what you're looking for.  Islington Farmers' Market is just up the street from us, but we prefer Chapel Market for fruit & vegetables and fish.  Islington Farmers' Market has a very organic spin.  They've got organic juice, meats, some home grown veg, but the thing that keeps bringing us back is the lamb-burgers.  There are about a thousand toppings/chutneys to go with the lamb burgers as well.

On Sunday, 10-2.  If it doesn't pour tomorrow and we get our bums in gear, we'll meet Aimiloo at the market.

I've been a couple of times to the Farmer's Market. A friend of a friend, Vicky, is the fishmonger who goes there every weekend. She's got very nice stuff.

There are only about a dozen stalls or so, but (as DS mentioned) the lamb burgers are lovely. They're in a strange location at the moment, or they were a couple of months back the last time I went--you have to go down the walk next to the Town Hall off of Upper street to find them. And I'd echo that earlier comment, do go early. There is some lovely stuff to be had!
