Banking Issues
« on: December 21, 2005, 09:44:10 PM »
Hello everyone.  I'm a dual US/Italian citizen, moving to the UK from the states.  I've read that there are certain issues for US citizens with banking for obvious reasons.  Is there anyone on the forum who had full EU or UK citizenship prior to their UK move?  If so was it easier to get a bank account than it seems to be for US or other non-EU citizens?

Show your EU passport when you go to open the account, and dont even mention the other one!
Might make things a bit easier for you....

The real issue, however, doesnt stem from which passport you are using.... it is because most newcomers to the UK are unable to provide acceptable proof of address documents.

I had UK citizenship before moving...but still had to provide proof of address before I could open an account.  Luckily, I had an auntie who let me start having my bank statements from my US account mailed to her address (addressed to me, of course) before my actual move.  Just had to show my British passport and those bank statements w/the UK address and I was set.  (Well....and I had to wait for the bank to get some more applications in, but that had nothing to do w/my documentation!!!)
When I am grown-up I will understand how BEAUTIFUL it feels to administrate my life effectively.

Until then I will continue to TORCH all correspondence that bores me and to dance NAKED over the remnants of its still glowing embers.
