Question about status of my US/UK child...

So I'm organizing on paper all the things I have to do once little Philip is born in March/April, and I've got a question.

I know in order to get him a US passport I have to register his birth at the Embassy (£60 btw), and at that time I can apply for his US passport (£70 btw).

As for the English side of things, am I right in thinking I only have to apply for his passport, and that I *don't* have to register him as a citizen? I mean, I know I have to go to the registrar's office after he's born and register him then, I guess I'm asking if there's anything else he needs registering for - - or is that what the registrar does? Set him in stone as English?

Couldn't fine any info on this anywhere... blah!

You don't have to do anything besides register his birth.  The fact that he will be born in the United Kingdom of a British parent¹ is enough to qualify him as a British citizen, with full rights to a British passport.
