Flying with ticket in maiden name
« on: December 06, 2005, 09:59:45 AM »
I'm starting to get really nervous about this situation.  I bought our round-trip ticket to/from the UK before I was married and my ticket is in my maiden name.  My passport recently expired and I have changed my passport to my married name.  My driver's license is also in my married name and thus I have no 'official' ID with my old name.  Of course I do have my marriage license and my old cancelled passport with my picture/maiden name.  But is this enough for the airlines and immigration?  I know this has been talked about in earlier threads but just thought I'd see what others thought before I call the airline and see what their response is. :-\\\\

The worst part is I have stupidly bought a few more tickets over the next few months also in my maiden name (why I do not know...) so I will be going through this anxiety each time I fly.  We were refused clearance to leave in India last year (a long story but due to DH not me!) and I am so not wanting to repeat that experience.

I am not completely sure about this, but if you have your birth certificate and your marriage liscense along with your current passport, you should be fine.

Take your marriage certificate and your old passport -- you'll be fine.  You might want to call to see if you can change the name on your other tickets, just to save you the worry.  ;)

Call the airline. They should be able to put some info in the notes on your ticket so smooth the process, so when you show up with your documents the gate staff will know it's all been setup and dealt with. Also you will know exactly which additional documents the airline will want to see to allow you to board.

Thanks to everyone for the advice.  I called United and was told that all I have to bring is my marriage certificate.  Of course I'll have that along with every other piece of ID I can think of...birth certificate,  old passport (which of course has my work permit in it), etc...

Thanks again!
